HIGH DRAMA happened on the stump Tuesday evening.

It began with a beautiful lady.

Queen of her domain.

She and her mate seize the chance to enjoy a peaceful date.  No sparrows, no juncos.  The stump all to themselves!

Over at the feeders a pair of chickadees nibble on their dinner.

When along comes a new bird.  We don’t know him.  For the sake of the story, lets call him the Unknown Intruder.

Intruder heads to the stump where he interrupts Mom and Pop Cardinal’s date.  Momma Cardinal recoils at the site.

She asks him to leave.

He stays.  She calls on the males, who take up position and tell this guy to beat it!

They wait patiently.

They watch him eat.

Now he’s pushing his luck.

They take action.  One male attacks the intruder while another male flies away and Pop stands guard.

Everyone flies away.

No one gets dinner.
