2. Lovely photos and words, as usual! What is the name of the pinkish flowers under “Don’t you think?” It looks like a quince that I saw at the garden center recently.

   1. Thanks! Yep, those pretty little flowers are quince blossoms. We have two quince bushes which are the rowdiest, most unruly bushes I’ve ever met. But, as they are located either side of the most-used entrance to the house, we are compelled to keep them reasonably well trimmed. They respond well to that and put off lots of blossoms and fruit. 🙂

      1. Wow, what is the fruit like? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it for sale. This year was the first time I’ve noticed the bush at the garden center. It was eye catching, and I noticed several people had one in their carts. I wonder if they know how “rowdy” it can be 🙂 They are such pretty flowers. Thanks for the explanation!

         1. The flowers are much prettier than the fruit is tasty. It makes a nice jelly, if a whole bunch of sugar and several hours of stirring is your thing. Frankly, that’s not my thing. So we don’t really use the fruit. ‘Tis OK. We don’t use the fruit of the pawpaw tree either. I think there is a reason why the quince bush hasn’t become popular and I’m surprised to hear that garden centers are selling them. Maybe they are making a comeback. All that said, I like the two bushes either side of the back door and take it as a challenge to keep them from over-running the entryway to my house. 🙂

            1. I have heard of quince jelly but never tried it. I prefer preserves–all jellies pretty much taste the same to me. Hmm so the fruit isn’t great and it grows all over the place…despite the beautiful flowers I don’t think a quince bush is for me (besides the fact that I only have a balcony for a garden haha). I had never seen those bushes at the garden center before, but that could just be my lack of noticing in previous years. I don’t know how I could have overlooked those flowers though. Either they are making a comeback or I’ve just finally noticed them. Anyway good luck battling them all summer 🙂

   1. Merci. Le Printemps! C’est la meilleure saison. J’aime beaucoup les autres saisons aussi, mais le printemps – c’est très doux. Comme tu dis, une explosion de vie…. et des couleurs…. et des odeurs. Yipee! 🙂

    1. Thanks Julie. Yes, the shade is magic. Just a couple months ago the valley was white and bright. Then carpeted in blue. And then comes the shade and the lighting becomes most compelling. There are just enough holes in the canopy for little pockets of light to illuminate certain branches. I tried to capture that in the photo about the effervescent light of the wood. Have a great day. 12. As soon as I saw your discussion of quince, I wondered where you were located. Now I see- Indiana! I spent a little time visiting there and quince came up in discussion. I’ve still never tried it!

14. Hi Jim, I think you spent a lot of time on your knees or on your belly to obtain those photographs.
    I love seeing deciduous trees covered by a haze of green as the buds begin to burst.

    1. Thanks. Anything for a good photo, you know. 🙂 I love the haze of green as well. I call it the “Spring Haze” and I just love watching as the trees transition from bare branches to full leaf. It is perhaps the most invigorating scene of the year. 🙂
